i don't think the 'ardent devotee of shiva' got the real meaning of lingashtakam. i havent listened to it in ages, but i do have the cassette tape somewhere..altho' i do not have the cassette player..

DEVA MUNI pravarar CHITA Lingam
-shiva who is worshipped by the devas and munis. the meaning being that the lingam that is worshipped resides in the hearts of those who observe silence means..'silence of the mind' and free from thoughts rather than being silent as in shutting the fuck up.

KAMA DAHANA karunakara lingam
(pay attention, ardent devotee)
Praises to Shiva who is in the form of a lingam. Shiva who burnt(dahana) kama(lord of love who shot him with the arrow of desire) to ashes with his third eye also showed immense pity and mercy(karuna) to rati(wife of lord kama) by bringing kama back to life.

this occurs in kumara sambhavam, when shiva is in deep meditation and the devas need him to create lord muruga(sri kumara; sambhavam meaning 'the event'..kumara sambhavam denotes the birth of lord kumara)with parvati who was the reincarnation of sati, shiva's first consort.

RAVANA DARPA vinasanalingam

Shiva who destoyed ravana's ego. when ravana wanted to uproot mt.kailash, parvati got frightened. shiva pressed his toe and kept the mountain from being uprooted by the egoistic ravana who had gained immense strength through his penance and boons from shiva himself.

Tatpranamami sada shiva lingam.

i bow my head with the greatest of huminity to lord shiva.

now...which part of this one stanza of lingashtakam keeps 'dangerous women at bay'?

who are anonymous 'devotee of lord shiva'? even if you choose to remain anonymous, do not attempt to humour us thus with your second hand and faulty knowledge of shiva hymns.

- born and raised(altho currently elasped) shivaite.
